Grab a snack, it’s going to be a long one!
It’s no secret that makeup is one of the sources of my happiness. I just love how buying or receiving a new product makes me feel like I’m on cloud 9, and when products are amazing? Yeah there’s nothing better than that. My makeup collection has grown quite a bit over the past year or so and there is no end to it’s continuation in sight. Between treating myself to new items on payday and receiving my subscription boxes from Ipsy and Boxycharm monthly, my collection is sitting quite nicely.
As a side note, anytime I get new products or am loving something (skincare, makeup, or otherwise), I generally share them on my Insta-stories, so be sure to follow me at @mallorieasanders on Instagram and interact with me!
Today, I decided to narrow down my collection to my one must-have item in each category of my makeup routine. I may not necessarily use these items 7-days a week due to my constant trying of new products, but these are the ride or dies of my makeup collection. Any event, photoshoot, or date night generally includes these beauties because I know they will never let me down.
When scrolling through the list below, you will see just how loved these products are. I chose to not clean them and make them look brand-spanking new because, well, that is just not realistic. The items in my collection that I don’t love are generally the ones that stay clean. The staple products, such as these, are simply not going to stay in pristine condition, so you are getting 100% authentic photography today!
1. Hydrating & Setting the Face
Can we just take a second to address how gorgeous the packaging of this is? When I stumbled upon this Pearlessence Coconut Rose Hydrating Face Mist while rummaging through the skincare section at TJ Maxx, I almost didn’t pick it up because I thought that it was going to be “too esspensive” (shoutout to @KathleenLights for subconsciously making me say expensive this way for eternity). But, the beauty just tempted me and I saw it was only like $6 so I just threw it in my buggy. There are two things when it comes to facial sprays that I love: rose scents and the word hydration. I immediately came home and tried this out on my oh-so-dry face and instantly fell in love. If it weren’t for the glass bottle I would pack this in my booksack with me to campus and spray myself all day. This spray is hydrating without making your skin feel greasy. The spritzer is AMAZING- which also something I am so picky about. You do have to hold this a bit further from your face than normal because the spray is strong, but there’s never any random droplets left on my skin that would be noticeable on a full face of makeup. I generally spray my face before I do my makeup, and then once my face is complete. This gives me a nice, hydrated base to work on, then it melts my makeup together and gives a flawless, healthy finish to my makeup. If you haven’t tried this, I recommend. Even if nothing else, this is the perfect decoration for my makeup vanity, as you will see in all of these photos! ***The sister product, the cleansing wash, is in the background, and is equally as good. Stay tuned to hear more about it in my upcoming skincare video.
Let’s establish this: I used to think primer was dumb. That is, until I started trying primers that worked for my skin. I received this Dr. Brandt Pores No More Illuminating Primer from my Boxycharm box earlier this year. I had dreamed about this primer and never would spend the money, because this is definitely one of the more pricier primers on the market. I’m choosing to talk about it today because I genuinely believe it is worth the money. The formula feels so luxurious and is so radiant on the skin. I started getting so many compliments on my skin right after I first started wearing this and it has clearly made a noticeable difference to my routine. Even on days that I am going to school with no makeup, I will occasionally put the tiniest of amount on my face and have a nice fresh-faced glow for the day. And good news: a tiny bit goes a long way. Shop now at Sephora, $38.
I don’t feel like I need to speak too much about this foundation. Any other YouTuber who has tried this generally has the same reaction. IT IS GOOD. This is the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation. The formula is nice and radiant, without making my skin oily. It has nice medium to full, buildable coverage and is quite long-wearing. I enjoy wearing this foundation by itself, as well as mixing it with my other foundations, depending on the occasion. It is liquid without being runny and blends like a dream. I go back and forth between using my Morphe beauty blender and the Morphe M439 for application and the results are equally as great. I wear the shade “Vanilla”. This foundation retails for $39 at Too Faced , Sephora, and Ulta.
It would honestly pain me if something ever happened that made this concealer get discontinued. In fact, I think there would be an international Tarte protest. Tarte Shape Tape is the number one concealer in the world- and I’m not making that up. It doesn’t crease or shift and is the fullest of full coverage. There isn’t much more to say than if you don’t own this and you are in the market for a concealer, just take my word for it that this is going to change your life. I wear the shade “Fair Neutral”. Shop now at Ulta, $27.
5. Setting Powder
As great as the Laura Mercier and the RCMA translucent powders are, why spend more money than you need to? Coty Airspun prevents flashback and is so worth the very little bit of money spent. The only downfall to this is the smell- you’ll smell like a funeral home, but it is worth that face-save, honey! Shop now at Walmart, $5.97. Also can be found at the drugstore.
The Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer is the queen of drugstore bronzers. The smell makes you feel like you are on a beach in Fiji downing a piña colada and being fed grapes by a hot guy in a sarong. But, as far as the formula goes, it blends easy, isn’t patchy, and can be worn for any day or night time look. I swear, you don’t be disappointed- by the bronzer or the imaginary hot sarong-wearing man. Shop now at Ulta, $14.99.
The Goof Proof Brow Pencil (shade 4) by Benefit is a life-saver. The formula is incredible and just glides onto the brow. The “triangle” shape makes filling in my brows fool proof. The color range for this product is incredible, and did I mention it is water-proof? No more weird brows after the pool or the beach! The component is double-ended and comes with the spoolie, which is a must and a God send. Also, this formula is buildable, so it is great for natural or dramatic brows. Benefit hit this product out of the park. Shop now at Sephora, $24.
I don’t think this product needs any introduction. The Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Palette is the eyeshadow palette of the century. The wide range of colors, incredible pigmentation, blendability, and affordability is what sets this apart from the rest. I won’t sit here and go on and on, because really you just need to see for yourself. 35 custom colors (mattes, duo-chromes, and shimmers) of perfection. As long as you have this palette, you will never have the need for another one. Shop now at Ulta or visit Morphe and use code “JACATTACK” to save 10%.
I am probably the pickiest mascara user ever. Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara lengthens my natural lashes without looking clumpy. The jet-black color is beautiful, and I swear this stuff is like concrete. The bristles of the application lock in at the root of event the tiniest and thinnest of lashes and completely transforms your natural eyes. No transferring and smudging for me, honey! Shop now at Ulta, $23.
I’ll be honest, I’m not really an eyeliner person. I hate wooden pencils, felt tips, twist-ups, and liquids, but for some reason I love this Essence Gel Liner for whenever I decide to wear it. The formula is extremely nice and sits well on the skin. The pigmentation is crazy, so I barely have to use any of it at all to get the look that I am going for. I definitely recommend using a thin liner brush with this! Shop now at Ulta, $3.99.
This is an “oldie”, but a goodie. Even though you cannot purchase the Jaclyn Hill x Becca Face Palette anymore, all of the blushes and highlighters can be purchased on their own. Prosecco Pop and Champagne Pop are the most beautiful and buildable highlighters ever. I wear both on their own and mix them together, even on my most natural and glam days. (Even the blushes in this palette are incredible). Shop the highlighters now at Ulta, $38.
This is the part of my collection where I could be considered a hoarder… but in a good way. I am a lover of all things lipstick and it feeds my soul! To pick just one is incredibly difficult, but I can definitely pick out my favorite liquid lips from my favorite brand, ColourPop Cosmetics! The Ultra Matte Lip in Bianca is my favorite lip to dress up or down. I get this most compliments when I wear this color! Usually, I use a gloss over the top to give an extra “pop” to the color. Sadly, this color is discontinued, but Time Square is an extremely close second to Bianca and gives off the same color and vibes. Plus, the formula is just as good! Shop now at ColourPop Cosmetics, $6.50.
If you have stuck around until the end, you’re the best! I hope you enjoyed this blog post. If you love any of these products like I do, or have any recommendations to add to my collection, leave a comment down below!
