If you asked me what my feature I like most about myself , I would definitely say that it’s my hair. Ever since I was little, I have treated my hair like gold. I am extremely obsessed with taking care of my hair, while keeping as little product as possible in it. I used to straighten my hair every single day, put it in messy buns, or put it in tight ponytails. Even on days I took advantage of the messy buns and ponytails I still straightened my hair. I noticed that the heat was taking a huge toll on my hair and the buns and ponytails were creating massive breakage. I knew that I had to change up my routine in order to keep my hair in the best condition.
Over the past couple of years, I have completely weeded out the unessential products for my hair. I only use hairspray if absolutely necessary, only wash my hair 2-3 times a week (this key tip has helped my hair become less oily!), rock my natural wavy hair on days where I don’t have to look my best, and choose to curl my hair rather than straighten so I limit the times in a week that I have to expose my hair to heat.
My curling tip is to use a straightener to get your curls! By using my straightener, my curls last days rather than hours, and I find I don’t experience near as much damage by using this trick. If you would like to see a tutorial on how I curl my hair, let me know in the comment section.
But, as all of us know, your hair has to be exposed to some product. Through my haircare journey, I have discovered five key products that have made my hair healthier, shinier, and more voluminous.
1. Nick Chavez Advanced Volume Shampoo with Expansion Technology
This shampoo is honestly some of the best shampoo I have ever used in my entire life. I have tremendous issues with dry scalp, plus sensitive skin, so finding a shampoo that does its job while not causing more issues for me is a challenge. I was first introduced to this shampoo by my mom who saw a special on QVC and ordered me the set. I’m so thankful that she did! This shampoo combats residue and build-up from any dry shampoo or hairspray that I might use, but doesn’t make my color fade. Not to mention, it contains hyaluronic acid which moisturizes the hair and scalp. The added volume is an extra bonus! I think it will be hard for me to ever find a shampoo to replace this staple. 8 oz. bottle: $18.70 32 oz. bottle: $64.60
Nick Chavez Advanced Volume Conditioner with Expansion Technology
You had to know this one was coming…. Yes, I also use the matching conditioner! While I know this is much more pricey than some products you find at the drugstore, I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for. You only have to use a small amount of these products for the maximum results, therefore you save money in the long run. I love this conditioner because it doesn’t make my hair feel “greasy”. I know that sounds gross, but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. My hair feels so refreshed, voluminous after washing- not to mention it smells like heaven. I apply the conditioner all over and let it sit for about 5 minutes to achieve maximum conditioning potential. You can see a noticeable difference after the first couple washes. 8 oz bottle: $20.40 32 oz bottle: $71.40
2. Batiste Dry Shampoo
Some days I just can’t get my life together. Some days it is a challenge to even shower, much less wash my hair (yes I know how that sounds, but you know I’m right!). On the days where I simply can’t make my hair work for lack of cleanliness and volume, I spray this magic-in-a-bottle on my roots. Y’all, I swear it is like magic. I have probably gone through six bottles of this since I have discovered it, and there is probably nothing on this planet that could get me to sway from this dry shampoo. First of all, it’s cheap- like really cheap. But I would probably pay $100 per bottle (if I had $100), to reap the benefits of its goodness. Make sure you shake it before use or your hair will turn which, but a brush fixes that just fine. I’m not very picky on the scents that I use, but Original and Bare are my go-to products. No worries ladies- they also have colored options as well! I love it because it doesn’t make my hair feel clumpy, and you honestly cannot even tell that I have dry shampoo in my hair. If you haven’t tried it, YOU MUST! Ulta always has these on hand, but life hack: Check TJ Maxx! They usually have a few and they are about $2 cheaper!
3. OGX Renewing Argan Oil Of Morocco Pentrating Oil
Y’all. This stuff is liquid gold. Not just because it’s actually golden, but because it is my prized possession when it comes to after-wash hair care. This product adds such a shine to my hair without it making it oily and softens the hair. My hair has never felt more silky and sexy! Not to mention, I have been using a sample of this product for months and I still haven’t ran out. This tip is very budget-friendly and easily accessible! If you shop at Ulta, the OGX products are buy 1, get 1 50% off! Huge thanks to my best friend, Brittney, for introducing me to this holy grail product!
4. Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Hair Mask
I first got this product in an Influenster box, and I had absolutely no idea why I was sent a hair mask. I thought the whole idea was dumb and just a gimmick, but I was completely wrong. I can’t speak for other hair masks, but this one is the cream of the crop. Like I said earlier, my hair and scalp live dry, so having hydrating products filled with vitamins and beneficial ingredients are a must. I use this mask every other wash and the results are miraculous. I massage the product onto my hair and scalp, let it sit for about 5 minutes, then rinse! It is fool-proof and so worth the extra time spent washing my hair. I haven’t gotten the chance to use other Briogeo products, but I have heard nothing but good things!
5. The Wet Brush
This invention saved my life. Dramatic, I know, but this made detangling my extremely knot-happy hair a breeze! The teeth on the brush are fine and make what used to be a painful experience super easy and quick. I either use this while I am in the shower or right after I wash my hair after it has dried a bit, but honestly I use this brush as my styling brush as well. It is cheap and can be found online through The Wet Brush (they have a ton of color and pattern options), or even in stores at Sally’s. I recommend EVERYONE investing in this brush- I promise you will be amazed. I love it so much that I actually have two!
If you have stuck around til the end, I hope that these tips have helped guide you in the right direction. I am not a hair expert by any means, but this is just a compilation and suggestion of things that have been highly beneficial for me in my hair care journey. If you have any product suggestions I may not have mentioned, please let me know in the comments below!
Hope you all have a great week!
